Liz’s Journal- Shuttered Sunday, 3-29-2020

(Also posted on Facebook Group- Sounding the Shofar)

Good Morning Family and Friends,
Today is Sunday, stay at home for a ‘Shuttered Sunday’.

Here are Biblical examples of being shut in for a good reason.

THE LAST EGYPTIAN PLAGUE- Death of the firstborn (Exodus 11:4-7; 21-23)
‘And Moses said, Thus saith the LORD, about midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt; And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh; he that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts. And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt such as there was none like it, nor shall be like it any more. But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel’.
‘Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the passover.
‘And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the basin; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning.
‘For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door , and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.

RAHAB AND THE SPIES (Joshua chapter 2; Joshua 2:9-15, 18)
The harlot hid two spies that came to her house to spy out Jericho before going in to destroy it.
And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea for you, when we came out of Egypt; and what you did unto the two kings on the other side of Jordon, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.
Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father’s house, and give me a true token; And that ye will save alive my father, and it shall be, when the LORD hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee. Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall. . .
18 (And they told her) ‘Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring they father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father’s household, home unto thee. And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.’

Chapter 6:1 ‘NOW JERICHO was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.’
6:22-23. But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot’s house, and bring thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye swear unto her. And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all she had; and they brought out all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel.

Read chapter 6 how God destroyed Jericho supernaturally.

As a side note the blood applied on the door posts and the red cord are pointing to a future time when Jesus blood was shed for our sins. Rahab is named in Jesus genealogy with Ruth, both originally heathen women. The third is Mary, mother of Jesus.

Have a good day staying inside,

Liz
