How Marvelous Is My Savior’s Love

This song which went around and around in my head this morning, reminds me of why I continue to blog-  It is because of MY SAVIOR’S LOVE for ME, for YOU, even as Jesus prayed in John chapter 17:18-26 before He was taken away to be crucified.

“As thou has sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. . .

Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the  world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou has given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.

And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.”

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.”  John 3:16-21

Father, I find this amazing, but yet very funny that you spend your precious time counting the number of my hairs, ‘But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.’ (Luke 12:7).

That we spend all our time playing hide and seek, ‘Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it. Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou…

“Of Such Is the Kingdom of God”- Children’s Ministry in Philippines

Feeding programs are popular ways to share the gospel of Christ with children in remote areas.

FEEDING PROGRAMS-  BRINGING JESUS TO THE PEOPLE

Many families come to know about the love of God and His gift of salvation that He offers ALL who will come to Him.   Jesus said,

“Let the children come to me, and don’t stop them: for the kingdom of God is made up of those with childlike faith.”  (Mark 10:14, paraphrased)

We do a lot of singing and action songs and simple craft activities with the children like this paper folding of a cross.  One sheet of paper folded like a paper plane and one tear done very carefully, will result in a cross with the scraps that make the word ‘LIFE’.  These beautiful Filipino children are so well behaved.  In these pictures we worked with 45 or so kids in a tight, confined space and the miracle is that no one lost their tiny paper scraps to complete their activity!

It is truly amazing that with outreach programs like this, hundreds of children and adults are able to be taught about eternal life, the gift of God to all who believe:

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him (Jesus) should not perish, but have everlasting life.”  (John 3:16)

Parents and grandparents who accompany the children to a feeding program event will also be taught the gospel by church workers and missionaries like myself and my husband.  Then afterwards, everyone will be served delicious hot sopa’ which is like a light milky macaroni soup with bits of chicken or thin slices of sausage.  That is my favorite Filipino comfort food.

At another feeding program in a ‘poorer’ area the folks lined up with their bowls and spoons for plain hot noodles dished out from a huge pot, and they were invited to attend the barangay/community church.

Sometimes special services are held at night and because there will always be a meal served, it seems like a whole barangay will be walking on a road (no lights) toward a church at dusk.  Before the service is over, many more people will have arrived and the small country church would be bursting at its seams!   Later, meals would be handed to those lined up in several lines for a late dinner and bottled drink.  Again, respect and order always prevails.  I love the Filipino people!  And God loves them even more!

You know, writing this post makes me miss being on the mission field!

“Dear friend(s), I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.”  (3John 1:2 NIV)

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”  (Romans 5:8)

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”  (John 3:16-17)

For God So Loved the World

Recently I’ve been thinking about John 3:16 and how it relates to the ‘Great Commission‘ as it is known and taught in most Christian circles.   I believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and that “All scripture is God-breathed, and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness: so that the servant of God may be perfect, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Tim 3:16 NIV).

The Great Commission refers to Jesus commissioning His followers to reach the world with His teachings about salvation and eternal life by believing in Him.  It says in John 3:16-17,

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”

The Great Commission can be found in each of the four Gospels and in many other places in the Bible.  This means that it is an important Biblical teaching.

  • Matthew 28:19,20 “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
  • Mark 16:15  “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. . .”
  • Luke 24:27 “repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem”.
  • John 20:21b “as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.”

“For God so loved the world”…  These words are so profound.  The Bible tells us that in the Lord’s prayer, in John 17:9, Jesus tells His Father that He prays for us, his disciples, who already believe in Him that we would be protected and be safe from evil.  But Jesus also said, “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me” John 17:20-21.  Jesus’ prayer was a prayer for unity among those who would believe in Him.

The main point I want to make is that the gospel of salvation is for all people in the world, not to be confined within the four walls of churches, or reserved for Christian believers only.  I wonder how many Christian churches even make evangelism and mission and outreach work a priority in their church budgets.  And I wonder how many folks are willing to be doers of God’s Word rather than hearers only.  We who call ourselves Christians, who are to be the salt of the earth and light of the world have not done our jobs well when we consider the state our society, nation and world is in today.  Jesus is the light of the world and we should be His light bearers.

“For God so loved the world”…  How can the people in the world- in our community, state, nation and  world know about God’s love if we don’t share the Gospel with them?  The world needs JESUS, not man’s ideas and philosophies, outward forms of religiosity, denominationalism, traditions of man, programs and entertainment, etc. that divide us.  Our prayer should be the same that Jesus prayed- that Love, Peace and Unity would prevail among ALL peoples.  If we can learn to love one another as God loves, then there is hope for a better future for every man, woman, and child in this lost and suffering world.

I hope that I can do my small part to spread the message that “God so loved the world”.  Since I started blogging a little over a month ago, I’ve reached viewers in the US, Canada, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Guatemala, New Zealand, UK, and India, with many more countries to go.  Please reach out to others with the love of God and join me in the Great Commission by proclaiming, “God loves you.  And I love you, too!”
