In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Genesis 1:1
And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:9-10
The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handiwork. Psalm 19:1
O GIVE THANKS
O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for his mercy endureth forever.
To him who alone doeth great wonders: for his mercy endureth for ever.
To him that by wisdom made the heavens: for his mercy endureth for ever.
To him that stretched out the earth above the waters; for his mercy endureth for ever.
To him that made great lights: for his mercy endureth for ever:
The sun to rule by day: for his mercy endureth for ever.
The moon and stars to rule by night: for his mercy endureth for ever. Psalm 136:3-9
As Creator God, the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY is worthy of our praise. We are His people who were created to praise HIM and HIM alone.
This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the LORD. (Psalms 102:18)
Let everything that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD. (Psalms 150:6)
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. (Rev 4:11)
There is no other god in all the world who is worthy to be praised and worshipped! Only GOD ALMIGHTY, Creator of heaven and earth is worthy of that honor.
For thou, LORD, art high above all the earth: thou art exalted far above all gods. (Psalms 97:9)
For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens. (Psalms 96:5)
God has always been LORD of all the universe, even before He formed the earth.
Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God. (Psalms 90:2)
God commands us to worship HIM, and not idols.
Thou shalt have none other gods before me. Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, . . .(Deut 5:7-9; Exodus 20:3-5)
This is what Jesus said in Matthew 22:37-40:
“. . .Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Choose today who you will worship. Choose the Almighty God and Creator of heaven and earth, Jehovah God who is our Lord and Savior, and Soon Coming King!
(Joshua said) “. . .choose you this day whom ye will serve. . .but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:15)
I changed the title heading because it has always meant
‘TODAY’S WORD FOR YOU (AND ME)’.
This new year let us draw closer to God so that He can reveal Himself as our Abba Father, El Shaddai, the All Sufficient One in our lives. Who is God in our lives and how well do we really know Him?
In David’s ‘Song of Thanksgiving’, David extols God (2 Samuel chapter 22).
AND DAVID spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD had delivererd him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul: (vs 1)
This is who God was in David’s life:
And he said, The LORD is
- my rock
- my fortress
- my deliverer
- my shield
- the horn of my salvation
- my high tower
- my refuge
- my savior
- my lamp
- a buckler
- my strength and power
- the rock of my salvation
- the tower of salvation for his king: and sheweth mercy to his anointed, unto David, and to his seed for evermore.
God delivered David from calamitous situations for this reason in 1 Sam 22:20:
. . .he delivered me, because he delighted in me. (22:20)
Therefore the LORD hath recompensed me according to my righteousness; according to my cleanness in his eye sight. (22:25)
This is what the apostle Paul said regarding David,
‘. . .he (God) raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfill all my will’.
Of this man’s seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus: (Acts 13:22-23)
May we know our God, and like David, seek after the heart of God to fulfill His will, His plan and purpose for our lives. AMEN.
ARE YOU SAFE IN GOD’S SHEEPFOLD, OR HAVE YOU GONE ASTRAY AND ARE LOST?
Isaiah 53:6 says ‘All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.’
Luke 19:10 tells us ‘For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.’
The ‘Son of man’ is JESUS who said ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.’ John 14:6
HOW MUCH DOES GOD LOVE THOSE WHO HAVE GONE ASTRAY?
For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.
How think ye? If a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray.
Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.’ Mt 18:11-14
GOD CARES FOR YOU AND WANTS TO SAVE YOU!
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John3:16
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 1Peter 5:7
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
(Read about the Good Shepherd in John 10:11-16 or go to Search Box ‘Good Shepherd’)
I have been reading Paul’s letter to the Romans. Talk about a long-winded man who once spoke at great length until way past midnight! You can read about this account in Acts 20:
‘a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.’ Paul stopped preaching long enough to go down to pray for him and the young man revived. He continued preaching until daybreak then departed by ship to Macedonia.
An exciting word of comfort and exhortation to the Romans (and us, too) can be found in Romans 8 where the apostle Paul talks about:
‘glory which shall be revealed in us’ (vs 18)
‘glorious liberty of the children of God’ (vs 21)
‘groaning within ourselves. . .for the redemption of our body’ (vs 23)
He speaks about what we, the children of God, hope for and how the Holy Spirit is with us to help us in ‘the sufferings of this present time’ (vs 18). Not only the Holy Spirit, but Jesus also, who is ‘at the right hand of God makes intercession for us ‘ (vs 34), and how ‘we are more than conquerors through him that loved us’ (vs 37) and how nothing ‘shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord’ (vs 39).
Here are more wonderful scriptures to meditate on:
For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it (vs 24-25).
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose (vs 28).
If God be for us, who can be against us? (Vs 31)
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Vs 38-39)
MARANATHA, THE LORD COMETH!
REJOICE IN THE LORD ALWAYS! (Philippians 4:4)
These 3 young ladies are my granddaughters, ages 15, 21, and 19. This is one of their last summer flings on the beach before returning back to school. The one on the right goes off to college in Washington state this weekend. The painting I just finished this week will go with her to remember this joyful day with her sister and cousin in Blue Hawaii.
By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.
He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses.
Let all the earth fear the LORD;
Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him
For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. (John 8:12)
I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. (John 9:4-5)
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.(Mt 5:13-16)
. . . be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; (Phil 2:15)
Recent oil painting of lava flow moving toward Pahoa, Big Island Hawaii in 2014.
‘Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and outstretched arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee: ‘ Jeremiah 32:17
‘And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.’ Genesis 1:9-10
God’s creative power is still at work in the world today. The islands in our Hawaiian archipelago came forth from the sea, and the Big Island of Hawaii is still growing and being transformed like in my painting above. Kilauea volcano is the most active volcano in the world and has been erupting continuously for the past 33 years. It is the most active of the 5 volcanos in our state, 2 others are underwater and 2 are dormant.
HOW MIGHTY IS OUR GOD!!!
GAIUS, FAITHFUL SERVANT OF GOD
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. (3 John vs 2)
In 3 John the apostle John wrote a letter to Gaius, an elder in the church, to praise his good works and Christian testimony among the brethren. He mentioned his displeasure with Diotrephes for lording over the people, and his callous attitude and behavior toward the leaders (fellow helpers, vs. 8-10). A third person John wrote about is Demetrius, another leader, for whom he has words of praise (vs. 12). Here are a few significant points from 3 John.
BELOVED OF GOD
We, who are loved of God and who love God are called His Beloved, even as Gaius was addressed by John- ‘Beloved’. John wrote of himself as the disciple ‘whom Jesus loved’ in John 20:2; 21:7; 21:20.
TRUTH 6 References to ‘The Truth’, ‘In the Truth’ (2 x’s), ‘In Truth’, ‘To the Truth’, ‘Of the Truth’.
This refers to GOD’S WORD, the Words of Jesus as He taught His disciples, the teachings and lessons from the Bible that we should learn and live by.
John said ‘I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth’ (verse 4).
JOHN’S WISH FOR GAIUS
3 Parts- Prosperity, good Physical health and Spiritual Prosperity (vs 2).
Why did John wish or pray for prosperity or financial and material blessings for Gaius? In his letter he reveals what Gaius did with his prosperity.
- Gaius was faithful– vs 5, ‘Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;’
- He was charitable in supporting and receiving the workers who go forth in ministry, vs 6-8, thus being ‘fellow helpers’ to the truth;
- Gaius had a good testimony (and he noted that of Demetrius who ‘had a good report of all men’, vs 12.)
May we, too, understand what ‘TRUE PROSPERITY’ means, what purpose it should serve, and let’s provide support and encouragement to our brethren-fellow workers!
GOD’S LOVE, PEACE AND JOY BE WITH YOU ALL!
J-O-Y is: JESUS FIRST, OTHERS NEXT, YOU LAST! AMEN!
The 3rd Epistle of John:
1 The elder unto the well beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.
2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
5 Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;
6 Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:
7 Because that for his name’s sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.
8 We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellow helpers to the truth.
9 I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.
10 Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.
11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.
12 Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.
13 I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:
14 But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.
