God's Hidden Nuggets for the Endtimes

Over the recent past decades, America has degenerated financially, morally, and spiritually. America has forsaken God, rejected His ways, and now even defied Him by enacting laws contrary to His Word. America has invited the Devil to enter in, to destroy us from within by using our own leaders and politicians to do so.

Fifty years ago in 1965, famous ABC radio commentator PAUL HARVEY mesmerized millions with his story IF I WERE THE DEVIL’; how the Devil would seduce and destroy America. This paper will discuss who the Devil is, his origin, devices, and tactics from the Holy Bible, and after that, what Paul Harvey had so well noted in 1965. Satan has succeeded in destroying AMERICA- our youth, homes, schools, churches, society, our economy, and now our entire country!

The names of LUCIFER, SATAN, and THE DEVIL are synonymous. They are all the same person! Satan, the…

Parable of the Sower- Shofar eBook, Chap. 6 Thorny Ground Christians

We continue with the Parable of the Sower and the different ground that the seed, or Word of God fell on.  The relevance of this parable is about what happens when we hear God’s Word, how we receive it, and whether or not it is allowed to grow our faith.  Briefly, Way Side Christians are those hearers who have the Word stolen away from them, and the Stony Ground Christians are those who did not allow the Word of God to take root, resulting in them having shallow faith with little or no spiritual growth in their lives.  I believe that this group is comprised of the ministers and spiritual leaders who don’t teach the whole counsel of God and/or mislead their members with ‘different gospels’ other than the gospel of salvation, of Christ crucified.  And their members, as a result, will leave the church or backslide because of shallow faith.

I hope that you will go back and review previous posts, meditate on the Parable of the Sower for yourself  and let God give you further understanding of this important parable.  Here is a link with a very good discussion about the importance of being ‘rooted’ in God’s Word.  ‘What will cause the great falling away’

This is what is said about the seed that fell among the thorns:

“Then the cares and anxieties of the world and distractions of the age, and the pleasure and delight and false glamour and deceitfulness of riches, and the craving and passionate desire for other things creep in and choke and suffocate the Word, and it becomes fruitless”(Mark 4:19, AMP).

There are ‘cares and anxieties of the world’ that can prevent the Word of God from having an important place in our hearts and lives. Meeting basic survival needs of providing food, shelter and clothing for oneself or one’s family can take precedence over Bible reading or church activities. Some Christians say they have to work on Sunday, but what about Bible study or prayer meeting night? No one works 24/7. When folks stay away from fellowship they have already started to back slide. Trust and faith in God diminishes and the Word of God has become choked out of their lives.

Other Thorny Ground Christians succumb to ‘distractions of the age’ and chase after ‘the deceitfulness of riches’ and ‘pleasures of this life’ because they have been ensnared by Satan, whom the Bible says is the prince of this world who causes folks to be disobedient to God (Eph 2:2). They are deceived into thinking that pleasures and riches will bring them happiness and are caught in the trap of desiring more and more– a bigger house, fancier car, nicer things, clothes, jewelry, more and more of the latest fads and fashions, plus many other ‘delights’. For a time they may enjoy their wealth and material things and may even be generous in their offerings, to be ‘respected’ for their name and reputation. But more often than not, their ‘love of money becomes the root of all evil’ and they must have more money, more credit cards, more loans, etc. to maintain their style of living and/or get out of the debts they have incurred. Satan lets folks enjoy themselves for a while only to watch them suffer from their poor choices. In 1Timothy 6:10 the apostle Paul wrote,

“For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

Thorny Ground Christians become servants of mammon, the god of money. They are often misled by unfruitful Thorny Ground Christian leaders who preach an unscriptural prosperity gospel and have made their church and themselves rich at the expense of their own members. TV evangelists, in particular, are noted for spending more time on entertainment, raising funds and commercializing religion, and less time preaching the whole counsel of God. Some have scandalized the Church with the exposure of their riches and immoral lifestyles.  Jesus said,

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Mt 6:19-21).

“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon” (Mt 6:24).

Thorny Ground Christians have allowed their love for the world, other things, and other priorities take the place of their love for God and for His Word. They are spiritually stunted Christians who will not be fruitful because they have had the Word of God choked out of their hearts and lives.

Parable of the Sower- Shofar eBook, Chap. 6 (con’t)

We are on Chapter 6 where the hearers of the Word of God had the Word stolen away by Satan.  They are the Way Side Christians which comprise the majority of Christians today; they are also considered ‘nominal’ Christians by some, but by the conclusion of this study, they will be seen to be ‘marginal’ Christians as well.  For now we will continue with-

This second group has the seed of the Word of God sown into stony ground and,

“.. when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away” (Luke 8:13).

There is no soil to grow in, thus no roots. That’s why the prophet Hosea said, “break up your fallow ground” (Hosea 10:12) It is impossible for anything good to come from stony ground. In the parable of the fig tree, Jesus described men as being like trees needing the soil turned, fertilized, branches pruned, etc. Time was given for it to have healthy growth, but if after all that was done and still a tree bore no fruit, then it would be cut down (Luke 13:6-9).

Simply stated, Stony Ground Christians are shallow Christians. The Bible says that those in this group of Christians initially receive the Word of God with joy, but then because of trouble or persecution that arises over the Word, they allow doubt and confusion, fear and intimidation to cause them to distrust and reject the Word (Mt 13:21 paraphrased). How could they receive the Word with joy, then reject it? In Jesus’ day, thousands of people followed Him when they liked what they heard and saw. They liked seeing and being a part of the miracles He performed, but when they found some of His teachings too difficult to accept, they stopped following Him.

John 6:66 states,

“From that time many of his disciples went back and walked no more with Him.”

In the Bible, hard or stony hearts are also related to rebellion, stubbornness, disobedience, and spiritual blindness (Eph 4:18; Job 41:24; Isaiah 30:9). Samuel, the prophet/judge told King Saul,

“rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry”
(1 Sam 15:23).

Stony ground Christians include ‘religious’ people who hold on stubbornly to only what they want to believe, or what they have been taught to believe. They are self-righteous and hypocritical in that they believe they know everything they think they should know, and there’s nothing more you can tell them, i.e. they’re right and you’re wrong. They are proud and have unteachable spirits. Their hearts are hardened.

They often follow customs, church traditions, rituals, etc. and are legalistic in their doctrines. Many Stony Ground Christians have also remade God and the Bible palatable to what they feel is acceptable to them. Many churches have compromised the Word of God with unscriptural teachings that God is a God of Love and not of Judgment, and have caused schisms in their own denominations, e.g. with some stubbornly rejecting the idea that homosexuality is a sin and an abomination to God. They are spiritually blind, and are resistant to truth even to the point of provocation and violence.

It was the religious people of Jesus’ day, the scribes and Pharisees, who thought they knew everything and did everything properly, who resisted the teachings of Jesus vehemently and did not acknowledge Him as the Son of God, and finally put Him to death. Today, Stony Ground Christians are some church leaders, who can be compared with the Pharisees of Jesus’ days, who did not enter into the kingdom of God; neither did they let others to enter in also! They lead the pack in this rebellious generation today in rejecting God and His Word! They are not open to the guidance and teachings of the Holy Spirit and divide the body of Christ, bringing reproach to God and His Word, and are a major stumbling block to the unsaved (Mt 23:13).

STS eBook- Chapter 3 Con’t, OUR WEAPON

Psalm 100  A Psalm of Praise

“Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.

Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.

Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.”

See ‘Categories’ on Side Bar or under ‘ABOUT’ for previous chapters- ‘From Journal and Shofar eBook’

God has given us a powerful weapon so that we can “resist the devil and he will flee from us” (James 4:7).

Read Ephesians 6:10-18 about the description of the WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD which every believer must have to “be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.”

The Apostle Paul says,

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil”… verses 10-11

He describes who we are fighting with, which is the devil, Satan,  and how to arm ourselves with the last and most important piece that completes the armour:

...”the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.” vs 17

Without a weapon we cannot face our enemy; without knowing how to use it, we don’t stand a chance in a battle!  King Saul, who stood head and shoulders above everyone, and his soldiers would not challenge Goliath.  It took a brave shepherd boy with only a slingshot and 5 stones, who knew His God and skillfully wielded his weapon, to bring down the fearsome Goliath!   Knowing the importance of our weapon is highlighted in Judges 7 when God chooses His army to fight the Midianites.  God whittled down an army of 32,000 to 10,000 men, letting all the ‘fearful and afraid’ go home, then puts the rest to a ‘drinking water’ test. The lappers are separated from the non-lappers. There were 9,700 men who set their weapons down, got down on their knees and drank water with both hands.

Judges 7:6 says,

“And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water.”

The Word of God is the believer’s ‘sword of the Spirit’, his weapon in spiritual battles so that we can “resist the devil and he will flee from us” (James 4:7).  No one goes into battle without a weapon or not knowing how his weapon works!

The Word of God Brings Conviction

The Word of God has CONVICTING POWER as described in Hebrews 4:12-13:

“For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power (making it active, operative, energizing, and effective); it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and the (immortal) spirit, and of joints and marrow ( of the deepest parts of our nature), exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart. And not a creature exists that is concealed from His sight, but all things are open and exposed, naked and defenseless to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do” (AMP Bible).

A simplistic explanation of the power of God’s Word is that whether God is speaking to us, or we are speaking His Words, the very Words of God will bring conviction on the hearers which will ultimately draw them closer to God, or cause them to step back.  From God’s perspective, it is either full acceptance of His Word or rejection of the ‘thus saith the Lord’.  This demonstrates how the Word of God is a two-edged sword that brings out the humility or rebellion in man to accept God’s Word for what it is.  As such it could be said that God’s Word DIVIDES AND SEPARATES the righteous from the unrighteous, the holy from the unholy, the lovers of the kingdom of God from the lovers of the world, the lovers of God’s Word and the corrupters of God’s Word, sheep from goats, wheat from tares, believers from unbelievers and make believers, the hot from the cold and compromisers, etc.  Is it no wonder then that Jesus said in Luke 12:51, “Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division;”  (New American Standard Bible)

And John 7:43 says, “So there arose a division and dissension among the people concerning him” (AMP Bible).   And it continues today.

We Will Be Judged By God’s Word

It is God’s Word that will judge us.  How many believe Jesus when He said,

“I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”   (John 14:6)

“He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: THE WORD that I have spoken, the same SHALL JUDGE him in the last day. For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, He gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that His commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.”  (John 12:48)

In Psalms 138:2b it says, …”Thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name”GOD’S WORD reveals Who He is, which is more than or higher than all of His attributes or names combined together!

John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the WORD WAS GOD”.  Jesus is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. Jesus was in the Beginning and in Revelation, at the End of time, in the final war at Armageddon in the valley of Megiddo (Rev 16:16).  He returns to earth on a white horse with His armies.

Rev 19:13 ‘And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and His name is called THE WORD OF GOD.

Ps 19:10 David writes,

“… (His Word is) more to be desired than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them (His laws, commandments) is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward”.

Satan Alive and Well On Planet Earth!

STS Readers:  (Originally posted for ‘Sounding the Shofar’ Facebook Group, 7-24-2012)

I started writing this as a response to my grown son, who was troubled with the recent killings at the Batman movie massacre in Colorado.  He has two teenagers who live in this bizarre world of ours.  As a mother, grandmother and a Christian, I decided to respond from a Biblical perspective and address it to mainly Christians.  WHY is there so much violence in the world today? Among the many lives cut short was a 6 year old child who had not even begun to live, and two servicemen who served and survived military time, only to return home and be senselessly slaughtered!

These were some of my comments:

In the Philippines I saw armed security guards with rifles or pistols at banks and ATM machines, and at fast food places everywhere, even at a gas station.  Maybe we should be in a more preventive mode in America also and search everyone at the door going into the movie theaters, have metal detectors in every public place, fast food places, and in every school and public institution for that matter! Why?  Because these have been places of bombings and killings!  ( Perhaps armed guards will be the norm for civil misbehavior with the recent rages of ‘flash mob rioting and looting’ in America that could easily have us become a ‘police state’!)

We need to remind ourselves that we live in a dangerous world that is ruled by Satan whose job is “to steal, kill and destroy” (John 10:10).  We need to imprint this Bible fact upon the minds of our youth- that Satan is the REAL ENEMY of our souls.  Our responsibility as parents, grandparents, ministers, church youth leaders, esp., is to teach the Word of God which commands us to be a pure and holy people, separated unto God.  If most of the time we spend in church is used for singing and program activities, there is little time left for Bible study.  While we live in this world, believers should not be a part of, nor love the world with its appeal and attractions, fads and fashions, music and entertainment, and drive for money, fame, and pleasure.  This is what the Bible says in 1 John 3:15-17:

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.  If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.  And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.”

Why does it seem like we’re experiencing more and more violence and evil today? Our physical world is also changing because God’s judgment is now upon the earth, as well as the people, as it was in the days of Noah:

“The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filed with violence.  And God looked upon the earth, and behold, it was corrupt: for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.  And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filed with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.” (Genesis 6:11-13)

The Bible says in Isaiah 60:2 that the last days will be dark and filled with evil.

“For, behold the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people:”…

The second part of Isaiah 60:2 says, “and gross darkness the people” means that evil thoughts and motivations will consume the minds of people as the deranged young man, possessed of the devil who killed the movie goers.

Jesus said in the last days it will be like the days of Noah, when the earth was filled with violence and corruption just before the great flood.

“But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.  For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage until the day that Noah entered in  the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” (Mt 24:37-39)

Doesn’t this tell us that judgment is coming soon and that we should pay attention to the signs around us?  Only those who take heed to the Word of God and believe it, will persevere and survive the judgments coming upon the world.

When our youth involve themselves with the things of Satan, the prince of darkness, such as attending the diabolical movie ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ which is filled with massacre and killings, they  expose themselves to evil and thus risk danger to their own soul.  Anyone who intentionally gives Satan a door of opportunity to encourage his evil work, will ultimately suffer dire consequences as a victim, and many victims are destroyed by Satan whose intent is to take as many as he can to hell with him!

So my warning to all parents and spiritual leaders is to teach youth and adults, NOT TO PUSSYFOOT WITH THE DEVIL!  Herein is a truism:  Satan has GREAT POWER which he wields to do the works of darkness, and he is the MASTER OF MIND CONTROL.  When we give him our mind, instead of having on the mind of Christ, we will reap many D’s: Discouragement, Depression, Disillusionment, Deception, Despair, and Destruction, ending with Death, to name a few D’s.  The gunman in Colorado did not become possessed by evil overnight, but gradually over time allowed Satan to gain control over his mind.

I will continue posting more on this subject in Sounding the Shofar- The Enemy In Our Midst, about Satan’s strategies and devices to bring the downfall of Christians; how to overcome Satan and not be defeated by him and thus risk losing your salvation.

CONCLUSION:  In my eBook I wrote about the importance of God’s Word.  No Word of God=No Faith; No Faith=No Power; No Power=No Victory; No Victory means Satan has won.  You must believe that we are in a spiritual battle against Satan.  Avoidance of the subject of spiritual warfare and/or feigned or actual ignorance will spell your destruction as Hosea 4:6 says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”... Satan is alive and well on Planet Earth!

Philippians 2:12 states, “…work out your OWN salvation with fear and trembling.”  Attending church regularly or worshipping and praising the Lord does not ensure our salvation, but it is only having a relationship with God, knowing His Word and obeying it that will save us (Ps 107:20). Christians who don’t stand fast in the Word and in their faith will take a beating from Satan.  Our only protection against Satan is abiding in God’s Word, and obeying it.  Separate yourselves from the world and worldly people for your own good, for your safety, for your and your family’s protection.  Stand on this Word:

“Greater is He that is in us (Jesus) than he that is in the world (Satan, our adversary).”  1John 4:4
