TODAY’S WORD, 5-9-16 The Enemy’s S’s

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:  (1Peter 5:8)

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:   (John 10:10a)

After talking with some Christians about afflictions they’re going through or have recently experienced, I realized that the source of our testings and trials could be reduced to the works of Satan.   My sister’s husband who was well and happy one day was hospitalized the next day for pneumonia.  Two friends have teenagers whose personalities underwent extreme changes and are receiving psychiatric treatment.  Another friend became bedridden for 4 months, unable to use her hands or feet; she was otherwise healthy her whole life.  The works of Satan can be recognized by any or all of the following:

Please learn about Satan’s evil works and spiritual warfare so you can stand against him!

Read about what happened to Job.   In Job chapter 1 you will find ALL of the ENEMY’S S’s!  He is crafty, the Master Deceiver of all mankind from the beginning of time until NOW!

Put on the whole armor of God (Eph 6:10-18); resist the enemy and he will flee from you (James 4:7; 1Peter 5:9)!

God bless you and protect you from the fiery darts of the enemy!

"Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work." (John 4:34)
“Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.”   (John 4:34)

This post is about keeping our focus, staying strong in the Lord and what He has called us to do.  We need to stay close to God and His Word.  We must be wary of Satan and his evil tactics to confuse, distract, and deceive Christians with the purpose of destroying the work of God through strife and disunity.

Although written in my journal dated Jan 21, 2003, this seems descriptive of what is happening in Christian circles today.  This is what the Holy Spirit impressed upon me:

“Our meat is the same as Jesus’ meat, which is to do the will of the Father.  Jesus came to seek and save those who are lost that they may experience life and life more abundantly.  Our mission is the same.   It is to those in the lost and dying world who are ignorant of the message of salvation and eternal life, who are outside of the safety of the sheepfold.   The masses of the world are out there in the dark and the Lord is short of laborers.  That’s why He said to pray for more to labour with Him, to preach the gospel of the kingdom, to bring in the lost.  We should be doing the works of Jesus and the early disciples of bringing the message of salvation and deliverance to the world.  That is our job.  Whereas the enemy’s job is to thwart all efforts directed at God in accomplishing His perfect plan and purpose for mankind.

We must always be careful on whose side we are working, whose purposes we are supporting.  Everyone must determine in their own minds to know who the enemy is and what his agenda is.  If we are not careful, we could easily find ourselves in the wrong camp and following the plan of the adversary, rather than serving in the ranks of the Lords’s army.

It is the ultimate goal of the devil to cause divisions and strife within the body of Christ to make it self destruct by pitting people and organizations against one another.  Many do not recognize this, however, and think that they are helping God out by labeling and identifying ‘dissident’ groups.  They are being used of the enemy and are not even aware that their zeal in doing this has been motivated by Satan himself.

When we take our eyes off the main focus of our calling, the enemy is right there to use us as his instruments to weaken the body of Christ. It is the highest form of deception when believers forget who their mission is to be directed to – the lost, the poor, the needy, etc. and they begin to attack one another.  It is also the greatest damage they cause to God’s work on earth by bringing reproach and loss of credibility upon those who profess to be Christians.  If we cannot impact the world with the gospel, the numbers that will come into the kingdom will be drastically reduced.  And we will certainly be held accountable for our part in hurting the work of the Lord.

CHAPTER 7  Watchmen on the Wall

You are in the LORD’S ARMY only if JESUS is your Lord and Savior, and if you serve HIM only. You are NOT in the LORD’S ARMY just because you attend church on Sunday or have signed membership in a church, or even if you give regular offerings.  It is through JESUS ONLY, or ONE WAY as the song goes, that we become followers and soldiers of Christ.  Jesus is the Commander-in-chief of the LORD’S army into which were drafted, His Special Forces, when we chose to follow Jesus and were conscripted by God to serve Him.

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”  (Rev 3:20)

And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.”  (Mark 1:17)

and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.”  (Rev 17:14)

See ‘The good and faithful servant’– Mt 25:14-23.

Every believer in Christ is in a spiritual battle to stand with God and stand against Satan.  The amazing part about fighting in this battle is that it is not really OUR battle, but it is GOD’S, who will fight it for us, but we must stand and resist Satan with Him.

The battle is the LORD’S, and the victory is OURS!  GOD FIGHTS FOR US!  He is not only our Savior and Redeemer, but God is also our Deliverer from evil!  Jesus taught His disciples to pray to the Father, “deliver us from evil…” (Mt 6:13)

“The battle is the LORD’S,…” (1 Sam 17:47)

“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Cor 15:57)

No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; (Isa 54:17)

Good soldiers have made their choice and decided which  side they want to be on.  It is God’s side!!!  Like Joshua, we have said, “as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:15)

Our first order is to drive the enemies out to claim the blessings of God and the Promised Land.  We are thrust into the battle between evil and good in this world which is a battle between God and the enemies of God who resist Him, namely Satan and his warring factions.  This battle is for the souls of men.  The stakes are high; the outcome will be eternal life with God in heaven or eternal damnation with Satan in hell.

We are all called to be soldiers to engage in a spiritual battle, whether we like it or not.  As long as we live in this world, the battle between good and evil, God and Satan, for men’s souls will continue until the end of man’s rule on earth.  The battle has begun and will intensify until that day when the Lord returns with His faithful servants and sets up His Kingdom on earth.

This is what the prophet Isaiah wrote of the last days:

Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD has risen, upon thee.

For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall rise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.  (Isa 60:1-2)

What kind of soldiers will make up God’s army?

The answer is ONLY the fighting ones, the good and faithful soldiers–  no cowards, deserters or traitors; no compromisers or those with double-mindedness or unstable character, none who are tainted with worldliness in character and behavior, but only those separated unto God to do His will and accomplish His plan and purpose for man.

God’s army is comprised of those who are:

Friends of God

Fearless and brave

Focused and alert

These men and women of God are courageous to the end,  following GOD’S directives, not man’s, fully committed to His service.

A good soldier places his trust in God in keeping the faith and is totally committed to his mission.  He has courage and confidence, knows his calling and is separated unto God.

 The Bible says,

No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. (2 Tim 2:4)

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?  (2 Cor 6:14)

Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord(2 Cor 6:17)

A soldier

“endures hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.” (2 Tim 2:3-4)

A good soldier makes his service to God his number one priority, and is not distracted by personal and business matters, but leaves these behind when he goes off to the front lines.  He is not afraid of face-to-face combat; he has no commitments to hinder him from being focused on the task at hand; he is alert and vigilant, ready to confront his enemy.

(Jesus said) No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” (Lk 9:2)

Who are we fighting?

It would often seem that we are fighting among ourselves, other people and diverse groups, including nations fighting against nations.  There is disharmony and strife in every human institution- family, school, church, government and society, among every culture and race of people.  While covetousness, envying and greed, anger and murder, etc. underlie most strife and evil deeds, the evil and wicked spiritual battle is incited by and is being warred under the leadership of SATAN with his demonic army.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.  (Eph 6:12)

Where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.  (James 3:16)

SATAN’S Modus Operandi- MO

To engage in this battle is to engage with the enemy of our souls, Satan, whose goal is to destroy us.

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:   (John 10:10)

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:    (1 Pe 5:8)

How will we defeat Satan in his attempts to ‘steal, kill, and destroy’ us?

GOD WILL EMPOWER US to do battle with Satan as we are submitted in obedience to Him and His Word.

2 Cor 10:3-6 state:

3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

In his exhortations, the apostle Paul continues:

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.  (Eph 6:10)

This verse tells us that our strength is in the Lord and also in the power of the Holy Spirit in us from our Almighty God and Father.  The latter refers to Acts 1:8:

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you…”

The Armour of God

God has given us an armour to help us in our battle with our enemy. This armour will work when we are in right standing with God and when we take an offensive stand against Satan.  Take note that ‘stand’ is mentioned 4 times in Ephesians chapter 6:

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

As believers in Christ we must RESIST AND OPPOSE every attack directed against us. Our shield of protection is FAITH:

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.  (Eph 6:16)

As a good soldier in God’s army, we must have an offensive mindset and CONFRONT our adversary.  If we are knocked down, we must get up and FIGHT for our very life.  Don’t let Satan push us around and make mincemeat out of our lives.  Stop listening to his lies and letting him intimidate you.  Get into GOD’S WORD and learn it for yourself so you can use it as your weapon!

YOU ARE A CHILD OF THE MOST HIGH GOD, SO ACT LIKE IT! Stand up, put up your dukes and FIGHT; use the strength of God and power of the Holy Spirit; use all the armament God has equipped us with.

Ephesians 6:14-17 describe the parts of the armour that include truth, righteousness, faith and salvation and the all important weapon, ‘the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God’.  It is imperative to learn and study the Word of God for ourselves, to energize our faith, to use it against the enemy as we stand firm to resist his attacks.  Our armour is not complete without knowing how to wield our weapon, ‘the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.’  2 Tim 2:15 says:

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

As a good soldier, we must take  full responsibility for studying God’s Word by ourselves to have His approval, and not be a poor Christian witness.  Everywhere I have taught and preached has been on the importance of knowing God’s Word.  I exhorted folks to take this scripture seriously because Satan tempted Jesus with the Word of God as he will us.   Satan, the Master Deceiver is taking out the troops, adding many ill-equipped and ‘wannabe’ soldiers to his rolls as we  see with the growing apostasy in the churches!

Prayer, the blood of Jesus and the word of our testimony are essential elements of spiritual warfare:

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints:    (Eph 6:18)

And they overcame him (Satan) by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.              (Rev 12:11)

Back in 1973, when I first committed myself to serve Jesus, I was surprised to hear a dear brother in Christ warn me with these words, “The devil is going to test your faith.”  I thought what negative words to say to someone who has just returned to God’s sheepfold.  I understand more clearly now, that there is a battle going on with Satan trying to win the Christian believer back to his side.  But God has given us His Word and promises that will equip us to stand firm and resist Satan’s attacks upon our faith.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.  (2 Tim 1:7)

Submit yourselves therefore to God.  Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  (Jas 4:7)

Neither give place to the devil. (Eph 4:27)

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.  (Joshua 1:9)

Are We Prepared For The War To Which We Are Called?

Instead of so many ear-tickling sermons and teachings, SPIRITUAL WARFARE should be taught in every church that professes faith in Christ. Believers need to know that they can recognize and resist the wiles of Satan by putting on the armour of God as taught to us in Ephesians 6. These important teachings will help us to have victory in our Christian walk.

Does the Bible really say we’re not to judge others?

This is a very good question which is answered concisely and supported with scriptures. Be mindful of these verses:

“For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?  And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? (1Peter 4:17-18)
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” (1 Peter 5:8)

Some professing Christians become infuriated when a “watchblogger” has the chutzpah to report on a false teacher by name, as if naming names is unbiblical. High-profile leaders and bloggers who mention heretics by name are often accused of demonizing or judging them.

Spiritual Warfare… What to do When You Encounter a Lion

A dear sister in the Lord descriptively presents an important lesson on ‘Spiritual Warfare… What to do When You Encounter a Lion!’  MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT THIS- WE HAVE AN ENEMY TO DEAL WITH!!!

Lucifer, The Devil, & Satan — Pastor Lawson explains the Biblical Difference

Please watch this excellent video by Pastor Lawson! No one should be in the dark about LUCIFER, THE DEVIL, & SATAN!

Pastor Lawson discusses how the King James Bible Translators used different terms to refer to the same creature.  Learn the differences so you are not confused by how the world uses these terms.  The occult uses the terms differently.  This sermon was originally preached over a year ago but is very timely to hear it today.

The Easiest Way To Resist The Devil – Joyce Meyer (Part 2)

This is a very good follow up on my Aug 21 post, ‘The Ultimate Surveillance Spy‘. Obedience to God’s commandments and submitting to His will are keys to dealing with Satan.  James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”  Joyce Meyer presents excellent teachings on taking authority over the devil.

I know that most of you are probably thinking ‘I’m not going to watch that- it’s too long. I don’t have time for that’, and I completely understand, because if it were someone else posting this clip I probably wouldn’t watch it. However I strongly urge you to at least listen to some of it. Joyce Meyer is really engaging, as some of you might know, and listening to it, I was capitvated and challenged. It completely refreshed me!!

The Ultimate Surveillance Spy

Who Is Behind Surveillance and Our Rights to Privacy?

Are you concerned about surveillance and your personal right to privacy?  FORGET IT!  We are constantly being watched whether we like it or not, and we have no say about it!  And it’s not the government and its spies we should be concerned about because they themselves are being watched and manipulated by this BIGGER AND MOST POWERFUL SPY who with his minions of demons and human agents carry out plots, schemes, and conspiracies to destroy mankind.

That SPY is the spy of all spies who is our common foe,  SATAN, the prince and ruler of this world, the one who rules all the kingdoms of the world right now. To prove that Satan owns the world, the following describes what happened while Jesus was in the wilderness:

“.. the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them.. All these things will I give thee.. if thou wilt fall down and worship me”  (Mt 4:8,9).

If anyone is to be feared, it is this powerful enemy who is on a mission of destruction.   At this present moment, our adversary, Satan, a.k.a. as the Devil, is stalking every person on this planet, and you can be sure that he is up to no good!   The first people who were spied on and caught in his web of deception were Adam and Eve.  You can read about them in Genesis 3 and also read about how Satan had his eyes zeroed in on poor Job, a righteous man whose life was made a ‘living hell’ (Job 1-3).  In fact the whole Bible provides accounts of dealings with this adversary who tried the souls of mankind to thwart the plan of God for His people, and those faithful saints who had the victory over this formidable enemy.

“Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. And the LORD  said unto Satan, Whence comest thou?  Then Satan answered the LORD, and said,  From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”  (Job 1:6-7)

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.”  (1Peter 5:8-9)

As the STALKER of mankind, and as ‘the god of this world’ (2Cor4:4) and ‘prince of the power of the air’ (Eph 2:2) which includes the World Wide Web- INTERNET, Satan knows our whereabouts WITHOUT using high tech surveillance cameras, Facebook or email addresses.  He knows where we live, our street address; about our family, school, work, activities; where we are at any time of the day,  who we’re with or if we’re alone, and what we’re doing!  SCARY, HUH?  He also knows our strengths and weaknesses, especially bad habits or areas of personal weaknesses.   He has spy information gained from stalking and watching us.  Knowing our areas of vulnerabilities he can then plan HOW and WHEN to move in for the attack.  He knew that Job was blessed by God; he knew of Job’s reputation and successes, and financial profile.  Satan even watched what Job’s children did regularly on their birthdays, that they would all be together to celebrate with their siblings, so he could kill them all in one place.  He watched each time Eve stood by the forbidden tree and wondered about its beautiful fruit.  Then he made his move.

Satan’s M.O. is EVIL, never good, to serve HIS PURPOSE which is in John 10:10.  Jesus said,

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:  I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

Satan will steal our joy and happiness in many devious ways, using his many strategies and devices, all custom designed for each person living on earth.  And he will attack and/or destroy our bodies and minds in a multiplicity of ways, through sicknesses and diseases, premature death, hard drugs and the overuse and misuse of even soft drugs like prescription and over the counter drugs for treating depression, oppression, phobias and compulsive anxiety disorders that plague our society today.  Satan strives relentlessly to achieve his goal of killing off people through murders, suicides, violent criminal acts, tragic accidents, catastrophes and instigating wars with his goal of destroying as many souls as he can and damning them to hell in the short time he has left (Rev 12:12).  But one of his greatest evil goals is to cause Christians to backslide and eventually reject God by following after the mindset of the world which is ungodly and anti-God.

As long as Satan is the ruler of this world, we have to deal with him.   Make no mistake that Satan, the devil, is our adversary!   There is no escaping from his influence in the world and there is no one immune from dealings with him.  This spiritual and powerful foe is not only invincible and vile, but is no respector of persons.  He even tempted Jesus, who was filled with the Holy Ghost and power.   Jesus knew how to come back at Him with the Word of God and Jesus had his final victory over Satan when He rose from the grave victoriously.

BUT there is ONE WAY,  ONLY ONE WAY, to stand up to Satan.  The Bible tells us that we must appropriate the power and authority over Satan that Jesus gave us which comes from being filled with the Holy Spirit:

“. . .he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickess and all manner of disease.”  (Mt 10:1)

“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.  Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.”  (Luke 10:19-20)

“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”  (Acts 1:8)

The Bible teaches us that we can have power and authority over Satan when we put our trust in God and His Word.   When we submit our lives to God,  God will not leave us nor forsake us, but help us do battle with the enemy.  In fact, the battle is God’s battle and the victory is ours.  We are in a spiritual battle with God and Satan vying for our souls.  We need to have God on our side; we need to know the Word of God to claim its promises for us- for our safety and protection from the evil one.  We must cover our family, relatives, friends, neighbors and others with our prayers, and with the blood of Jesus.  We must learn about the armour of God in Ephesians 6 and know how to wield our weapon, the sword of the Spirit or Word of God.

Jesus taught His disciples (us) to pray to the Father, “lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”  (Mt 6:13).

The Holy Spirit will give us understanding of God’s Word, e.g. this scripture has 3 parts to it.

“Submit  yourselves therefore to God.  Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”   ( James 4:7)

  1. SUBMIT your life to God;

Every child of God can avail himself of the blessings of our Heavenly Father, but only if we know what they are.  That is why Jesus said,

“. . .Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”  (Mt 4:4)

The important point is that we must KNOW God’s Word and LIVE by it:

“If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.”  (John 15:7)

“If you keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.”  (John 15:10)

“Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.  and whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.”  (1John 3:21-22)

As Christians we need to be on the right side with God, in good standing with Him.

“We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.  And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness:  (1John 5:18-19)

“Greater is He (God, Holy Spirit) that is in you,  than he (Satan, the devil) that is in the world:” (1 John 4:4)

These verses assure us of God’s care and protection if we are submitted to God’s authority and living in obedience to His Word.
