CONQUERING OUR FEARS

I just read about the dire situation in Japan with radiation still spewing out of the nuclear plant there.  Human institutions seem to be falling apart; society has gotten immoral and dysfunctional and governments all over the world are in political and economic distress; rebellions against authority and revolutions continue to be out of control in many countries; the earth and universe are experiencing convulsions of nature, and it goes on and on.  And of all things, here in Hawaii we have a gigantic MOLASSES SPILL in our harbor with devastating effects on our ecosystem, thousands of sea life killed and widespread destruction of our coral in the affected areas.  In addition to the above, why are devastating floods, fires, droughts, severe weather and catastrophic events happening?  

In our Bible class this morning we agreed that we may not have the answers for the why’s since most of these events are out of our control or personal responsibility, anyway.   But what was emphasized was the ONE IMPORTANT THING WE NEED for surviving difficult times- FAITH.   WITH FAITH IN GOD WE CAN CONQUER ALL OF OUR FEARS.  We need to have FAITH IN GOD’S WORD, FAITH IN HIS PROMISES, FAITH TO BELIEVE THAT GOD WILL PROTECT US if and/or when we become victims of calamities like the folks in Colorado.  The Bible tells us that “the rain falls on the just and the unjust” (Mt 5:45).

 There is nothing we have now that we can take with us when we die and we are only a breath away from eternity.  We have ‘only a prayer’ when there is nothing else left.  We must have the assurance of our salvation, that we have an eternity with the Lord awaiting us.  The uncertainties of life behoove us to consider the matter of our mortality and where we will spend it- WITH GOD or WITHOUT HIM.  Please see these links:
