The Cross of Jesus

The decorations for Easter/Resurrection Sunday were being taken down in our beautiful church when I decided to quickly take a picture.  It was a memorable and touching service that started with a photo on the large screen showing the two pastors bearing this large (bare) wooden cross upon their shoulders on Good Friday.  A small group walked with them along the street of the block where the church is located.  What a difference in program from last year 2016.  Besides the traditional brass ensemble and hand bell choir, we sang many of my favorite hymns- Christ the Lord is Risen Today, Because He Lives, Lord I Lift Your Name on High, (with hand motions by the congregation led by the song leader), and He Lives, the old-time hymn I used to sing in the Baptist church I attended as a teenager.  Most importantly, the pastor preached a powerful message on the Risen Christ based on Mt. 28:1-10.  Christ defeated sin and death at the cross for us.

CHRIST IS RISEN; HE IS RISEN INDEED!

HE IS OUR BLESSED HOPE AND COMING KING!  HALLELUJAH!

  1. Can you imagine how heavy the actual wooden cross that Jesus had to bear over a rough distance of about 5 city blocks long, then called the Via Dolorosa (Latin- Way of Suffering) in Old Jerusalem before he was crucified? It must have been at least a 100 to 150 pounds to bear his weight. Jesus truly suffered and died for our sins!
