He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands- Journal 9-12-2012

GOD IS IN CONTROL

With so much bad news on TV and in the newspapers, we tend to forget that God is in control of everything, the good and bad that happens in the world.  Whether in our personal lives, in our nation and in the world, God always has everything under control.  While man tries to figure out how he can take his life’s affairs into his own hands, even create and run his own government according to his own rules and standards, God is in heaven, shaking His head.

It is futile to do things our way or think that we know better than to seek God for HIS guidance and wisdom through prayer and reading the Bible.  He, after all, is the fountain of all wisdom and knowledge, and do we think we know things better than God?!  Isaiah 55:9 says “His thoughts are higher than our thoughts, for His ways are higher than our ways”.  Jeremiah 29:12 tells us that God has a future and a hope for us that only He can bring to pass.  God will laugh from heaven when He sees that after all of our attempts to disprove Him wrong, that He will show HIMSELF mighty by establishing His kingdom on earth ruled by Jesus Christ; a kingdom of peace for ALL men and where righteousness will reign.  Most importantly, every knee will bow before Jesus Christ and acknowledge Him as Almighty God, the ruler of heaven and earth.

“All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name.”  (Psalm 86:9)

“Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.”  (Rev 15:4).

Those who resist Him and reject Him, those who scoff and ridicule the ways of God, will end up as big-time losers because we are not playing childish games; we are in a real battle for our lives, the outcome of which will determine where we will spend our eternity.  For there is a heaven to gain, and a hell to flee from.

God will have His way; He will win in the end.  While we may allow sin and wickedness to prevail and we may fight all those who oppose us, there is no one who can fight against God, who sits in the heavens and laughs and “have them in derision”  (Psalm 2:4).  Derision is a very strong word that God has for anyone or everyone who fights against Him.  It means He will laugh into anyone’s face who dares resist and reject Him, God, who loved the world so much, who gave His only begotten son for us (John 3:16).

Derision means to scorn, scoff, or mock.  Is God capable of doing this?  Yes, because He has been provoked to wrath and we see His hand of judgment upon us and upon the land, upon the earth itself and the whole world.  Soon He will show us our folly by causing everything be shaken out of place that can be shaken.  What will collapse, will collapse, and only those with unshakeable faith will remain.  Hebrews 12:25-27 says to pay attention to God who is speaking from heaven, who shakes up the earth as well as heaven, and who will remove everything that can be shaken (paraphrased), “that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.”

God will then reveal His kingdom which cannot be shaken, an everlasting kingdom:

“and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.  Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever.  The zeal of the LORD  of hosts will perform this”  (Isaiah 9:6-7)

Today is the day of (our) salvation.  The Bible says,

“behold, now is the accepted time: behold, now is the day of salvation.”  (2Cor 6:2)

Jesus said:  “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.  Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.  To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.”  (Rev 3:19-22)

  1. Thank you for this reminder! I have been feeling the push lately to speak more boldly for Jesus…I am part of the Great Commission, and there are many times that I feel timid, when I need to remember that eternity is at stake. Remembering that God is in control is reassuring, too, because when my words fall short, whether written or spoken, God can enter someone’s heart in spite of me! I am glad and blessed by your commitment to God’s Word.

    • I appreciate your comments, Amphomma, and your words of encouragement! Let us always exhort one another to good works that are pleasing to God!
